Use sparklines in Sheets

Use sparklines in Sheets

3 min read
I. Intro
Sparklines are small charts that are inserted into cells, which can be used to show the general trend concisely and intuitively. There are three different types of sparkline charts:
  • Line: Can be used to show the trend of changes over a continuous period of time.
  • Column: Can be used to show the size difference between the data points, highlighting the maximum and minimum values.
  • Win/loss: Can be used to show positive and negative outcomes, but not the magnitude of the data differnce.
Unlike traditional charts, sparklines do not have chart elements such as chart titles, legends, gridlines, and so on, and are usually placed in the same column or row as the data range.

You can create a single sparkline or a group of sparklines. All sparklines in the group will be of the same type and must be configured together.
  • Single sparkline: The data range must be a single row or column of data, and only one cell can be selected as the location for placement.

  • Sparkline group: Each row or column of data must correspond to the cell in which the sparkline is placed. The multiple data ranges and cell locations can be continuous or scattered.
Note: If you create a sparkline by dragging a cell with a sparkline to another cell, the new sparkline will belong to the same sparkline group.
