Why I like to share my experience?
I am a foreigner who have relocated to Shanghai to work for the past 3 years. Having been working for more than 10 years in client servicing, we have been so used to using emails (written in English) as the formal mode of communication so my personal experience in using Feishu has really been mind-blowing and I really enjoy the experience and how technology is evolving so quickly to bring higher efficiency to our work lives. Change is the new constant.
How I got to know Feishu?
As our client is using Feishu, all team members servicing the client enrolled for an account and quickly embarked on this journey where no more emails are required. I started using Feishu since the beginning of 2020 and it has been an excellent experience.
What I love about Feishu?
Chat function
Using Feishu is like using other chat APPs(minus the emojis), it is easy to follow the discussion and add on our emoticons like ‘thumbs up’, ‘fist bump’, ‘love’, which makes the relationship tighter with the clients. We can use it both on our mobiles and on the computer, so we can be connected at any time anywhere.
One of the most exciting discovery was when the voice to text function went live. We no longer need to type so much, we can just speak and the voice to text captures the information very accurately, saving us time to type.
We no longer need to send emails and attach files; we can simply drag the file into the chat, and we will be able to share it instantly. And as we got to know the program more, online document was really a game changer.
Online document
In the past, we shared our reports in PowerPoint format and submit through Feishu to our clients. Later in the year, we transitioned to using the online document. It is ‘live’ update and multiple report writers can use the file at the same time. This is really very time saving, we can write commentaries (both English and Chinese) at the same time without worrying about version control (saving the most updated version) or whether the computer will breakdown and document lost, because it is saved on the cloud ‘live’. And we are able to look at the history of changes, where needed.
The comment function was especially useful, the client can leave us comment pinpointing to the exact headlines or chart to ask questions, discuss thoughts, and we can respond in the comment box directly to resolve queries, which is fast and simple. It even has a translation function which is great for working multi country projects.
How Feishu helped us in project management?
Other than using the online document for reporting purposes, we also use it for internal discussions and documenting of meeting minutes ‘live’. During Covid-19, we were working from home and having video conferences, the online document is especially useful, we can add in the details ‘live’ as we discuss and able to @xxx for their inputs and updates, making the instructions very clear.
Another function I love about Feishu is the documentation of files. We can use the folder functions to archive files into the cloud for the whole team to access any time. This is excellent for archiving a large scale project to keep track of any major changes.
What else I hope to see in Feishu?
Maybe this is already available (but I am not aware yet), I think it can also help as a project management tool. It might be able to provide reminders for tasks, and help with schedule planning, provide red flags for any possible delay in tasks.
Overall, I’m happy to have been able to experience Feishu in my career, after relying heavily on emails for so long. Emails are often very cold and formal while the Feishu chat allows real time discussion and can draw people closer even though we may be working in different places, different time zones, we no longer need to deal with hundreds of emails coming into the mail box, archiving emails (which takes up a lot of time) or look out for the latest email/ discussion, the Feishu chat itself is a single place for all communications. This is really a mindset change and adopting a new way of working as technology brings greater efficiency to our lives.
