Share folders with a link

2 min read
I. Intro
You can set the link sharing range of the folder to allow users within the organization to read and edit the folder as soon as they get the link, or allow anyone with the link on the internet to read it. For example, you can use a folder to store personal manuals of all members within a department, and authorize all members in the department to add their personal manuals to the folder.
Note:
  • Only users with folder management permissions can set the link sharing settings for folders.
  • Users who can access the folder may not be able to access all the contents of the folder. Documents and subfolders stored in the folder can be shared separately. After opening the folder, you or others can only see the documents and subfolders that you have permission to view.
II. Steps
Open the sharing panel
Open the folder, then click Share on the right to open the sharing panel.

Can edit
Users with the link within the organization can access the current folder.
You can grant view or edit permissions to members within the organization.
Anyone with the link
Can view
Anyone with the link on the Internet can access the folder.
You can only grant view permission.
If you choose this option, it means this document can be shared outside the organization, and an External tag will appear to the right of the folder name.
Share folder link
Click Copy Link at the bottom of the sharing panel, or copy the folder link in the browser address bar. Send the link in message or embed it in documents, announcements, or other locations. Users within the link sharing range can click the link to view or edit the folder (depending on their permissions).

Note: Documents and subfolders within the folder inherit the folder's link sharing settings by default. You can also modify the sharing settings for individual documents and subfolders. If a document in the folder has restrictions based on its security level, it may not follow changes made to the folder's link sharing range or permissions. Therefore, you may need to set the permissions for that document separately.
III. FAQs
Why has the link sharing of the folder automatically changed?
The folder inherits the link sharing settings of its location by default. If you find that the link sharing range of the folder has changed, it may be affected by the parent folder it is stored in. In this case, you need to re-modify the link sharing settings.
Why can't I select "Anyone with the link" when setting the link sharing range?
If the link sharing range of the folder does not have this option, it means that your administrator has turned off external sharing permission in the Feishu Admin Console. Therefore, all documents and folders cannot be shared externally.
If you have external sharing needs, you can contact the organization administrator to modify Feishu Docs settings.
How do I share a folder with specific external users?
Can I set a password for the folder?
You can turn on password protection for documents that are accessible to external users. External users will be required to enter a password to access the document while internal users are not. To learn more, see Passport protect documents and folders for sharing.
Are the documents and subfolders in the folder affected by the folder's link sharing range?
Documents and subfolders by default inherit the link sharing settings of their parent folder, but the link sharing settings of documents and subfolders can be individually modified. In the following cases, documents and subfolders will not inherit the folder's link sharing settings:
  • Documents are subject to security level restrictions, and the link sharing range of the folder is not within the allowed range of the security level. In this case, documents will not follow the folder link sharing range settings.
  • To separately modify the link sharing range for documents and subfolders, and the modified range is smaller than the folder, you will see a prompt to stop inheriting folder permission settings. After modification, the Docs and subfolders will no longer inherit the collaborator, link sharing range, and external sharing settings of the parent folder.
  • You can independently set the link sharing permissions for individual documents and subfolders, even to a more restricted scope than the parent folder. Doing so will stop the document/subfolder from inheriting the parent folder's permission settings.
Why can't I see some of the content in the folder?
Users who can access a folder may not necessarily be able to access all the content in the folder. The documents and subfolders stored in the folder can have their own sharing range. This means, if you open a folder, you may only see the documents and subfolders you have permission to access.
